The Service Advice Team is your gateway to all of our services. Where simple information and advice is required, a Service Advisor will be happy to help and where other services or in-depth help is needed, they can perform a complete and professional assessment of your needs. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Getting help from Age Concern Age Concern Northamptonshire Information and Advice Service is available by telephone on 0845 677 2220 Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm (calls are charged at local rate). As a member of the Age Concern federation, Age Concern Northamptonshire has access to a vast range of Factsheets and other information compiled by nationally recognised experts on a range of topics of importance to older people. Our trained Advisors will provide information and advice on many subjects. They can talk you through practical problems such as neighbour disputes or getting a boiler repaired, explain your housing options, help you through the maze of statutory services, access information on local activities, clubs or societies and advise on the full range of Age Concern Services as well as checking your welfare benefit entitlement and assisting with claims. Our Care Homes Advice Service will offer support with finding and choosing a care home or long term care package and will help you to deal with some of the practicalities of making that move if the need arises. Our Financial Abuse Advocacy Team helps people who have suffered financial abuse to take control of their finances and protect them from further abuse. In certain circumstances our staff can offer an Advocacy Service. An Age Concern advocate can help you to get your views heard, speak on your behalf if you feel unable to e.g. at meetings, help you protect your rights as an individual, get you information to help you make decisions, help you get the services you need and support you to make realistic plans Places to Go People to See Age Concern has a long and proud history of caring for the most vulnerable older people but how much better it would be if older people didn’t become vulnerable in the first place. Our Lifetime services and activities help people to remain fit and active for longer, being a valued part of their community and making the most of their lives. Fighting Isolation Age Concern provides Day Care across the County in purpose built centres, community halls and sheltered housing complexes. They are a great day out for older people, a place where you will be cared for, have fun and meet new people. They are a lifeline for older people and their carers. We support around 40 Lunch Clubs operating in rural areas of the county As time goes on, the interests of new generations of older people change. Our new Lifetime Centres will offer a wider choice of activities to people who want to maintain a good quality of life, build new friendships and learn new skills. If you need to get out of the house for the day or just for a few hours then a Day Centre or a Lifetime Centre is available for a cup of tea or a meal; the company of friends and much more. Lifetime Pre-retirement Course Many see retirement as an opportunity to change their lives; to carry on working, in a paid or voluntary capacity, or completely enjoy their new leisure time. Our Pre-retirement Course is stimulating, informative and fun and gives practical assistance to people considering their future. Specialist presenters will help you get the best out of life. Uniquely, we will be able to introduce our Lifetime Active Ageing programmes in which you can participate after the Course has finished.
Transport – It’s not easy to get around without transport, especially in rural areas. That’s why we operate 16 minibuses that can help you to make use of our facilities if you can’t make your own arrangements. |
Care Services Home Care - Age Concern Northamptonshire provides a Domestic Care Service for older people in Northamptonshire. The service offers help and support with domestic tasks including: General housework, Internal cleaning of windows, Laundry, Light local shopping, Changing beds, Ironing. The scheme employs domestic care workers who are security checked and supervised by Age Concern Northamptonshire. Hospital Aftercare - Coping with everyday tasks can be difficult after a stay in hospital. This free service provides practical and emotional support to older people who have been discharged from hospital, to re-adjust and return to independence. The Service operates Monday-Friday. It is not an emergency service and personal care is not provided but we can help with household tasks, advice and encouragement to help get you back in charge of your life. Hospital Discharge Advocacy Service - If you need long term care when you leave hospital and if you are not eligible for services from the Local Authority, then we can help you to find the best solution to plan for the future and to make arrangements for your care. Handyperson - operating in parts of Northamptonshire, this scheme helps older people to remain independent by assisting with a range of minor household repairs. This is not an emergency service but if the job is urgent we will do all we can to visit as soon as possible. Jobs that can be carried out include: fitting smoke detectors and rails; replacing light bulbs, fuses and plugs; small carpentry work and dealing with trip hazards such as loose carpets, moving heavy furniture and levelling paving slabs. Befriending Scheme - We are delighted to announce the launch of the “Good Neighbours Befriending Scheme”. The service aims to assign volunteers to befriend older, isolated and housebound people in the community. Where mobility allows, befrienders can accompany on shopping trips or to events or keep in touch by phone especially in severe weather conditions. The Good Neighbours Scheme operates countywide and is FREE! Referrals for the project can be made by anyone, just call 0845 677 2220. A Little Help - Sometimes all you need is a little help to get you back on your feet. If you are referred to our ‘A Little Help’ service or you think you would benefit from some simple practical support, we may be able to assist you in ways that allow you to remain independent at home and even reduce the need for hospital or residential care admissions. Aimed at people who are at risk of losing independence, possibly as a result of a life-changing event, our service will try to find simple solutions to meet your needs. Shopping - Our Shopping Service is designed to help older people who find it difficult or impossible to do their own shopping and have nobody else that could do it for them. The Service is well-used and there is sometimes a waiting list but our organiser will be happy to advise on availability. A number of supermarkets work in partnership with us in Northampton, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough Carers - The Age Concern Carers Scheme supports the carers of older people.
