The "Good Neighbours" Befriending Scheme has now been running for 1 year and has been incredibly successful, having matched just over 150 clients throughout the County with volunteer visitors.

The objective is to tackle the social isolation that many older clients experience in their own homes by asking volunteers to visit them regularly or phone them during times of poor weather or ill-health.

I still need to recruit volunteers in the County and am looking for independent people who are able to work on their own inititative and have the ability to listen as well as talk. Having your own transport is not necessarily important as I aim to match client with volunteer within the locality.Neither are work commitments so important as volunteers can determine how long and when they are able to visit.
